“Guess what? It looks like we won’t be having school this week. Oh, and what would you all think of making our visa run this week instead of next?”
We had just ended a very full, yet refreshing Sabbath. I was rather exhausted and hoping to get to bed as soon as I finished things in the kitchen, but with those words from Dad I gradually began to lose my sleepiness. A week off of school? A trip to somewhere I hadn’t been before?? Sure! However, going to sleep that night turned out to be more difficult than I had anticipated. I was just too excited.
It had all started when some of the teachers came to Dad after sundown to tell him that they as well as several of the students would need to be gone for a good part of the week. With no way to cover for so many teachers, we decided that it would be best to cancel classes for the whole week.
The break came as a pleasant surprise to teachers and students. With permission from Thara Joh Koh (the principal), many of the students were delighted to be able to go home to their families for a few days. The teachers were equally as happy to take a break.
The first part of the week passed rather quickly. Sharon and I had some time at home with a little more relaxed schedule than usual while Mom and Dad were able to glean information and ideas for our school while visiting a couple of schools in a nearby refugee camp on Monday and Tuesday.
Today, Thursday, we are on our way to a border crossing about ten hours from where we live to have our visas stamped. If all goes as planned, we will spend Sabbath with some friends in Chiang Mai and return home on Sunday, ready to resume classes on Monday.
God worked out so many things to happen this week that we could not have orchestrated it any better. He has led us so faithfully, and we look forward to the ways that He will continue to show His love and care for us. I pray that His leading will be just as clear and His love as real in each of your lives as you seek to do His will.
