• Urgent Property Need

Posted on October 21, 2011 by HarveyS in Uncategorized.

We are quickly approaching a critical deadline for Sunshine Orchard. The owner of the property that we are purchasing across the road is insisting that we finish paying it off by the end of October. Although the deadline is much sooner than we had previously understood, and it seems more than a bit daunting, we know that God will work out all things for good (Romans 8:28), and it may serve a good purpose in hastening the day when we will be full owners of the property.

Karen Outreach has already received some funds toward the amount due of $130,000, but we urge you to prayerfully consider digging deep to help. Please click here to read more details about this need and to find out how you can donate. We have also posted a list of other needs here at Sunshine Orchard.

This week has been full of other surprises as well. Harvey was asked to present a study on Wednesday evening to local church members and a group of students. He took the opportunity to share copies of the Karen Steps to Christ with each person, and then they read and discussed the first few pages. We pray that the book will be a blessing to many people. Later the same day we were able to share copies of the book with all of our students are able to read the Karen language. (All of them speak Karen, but the younger students are still learning to read.)

With a day’s forewarning, Harvey was also requested to speak words of encouragement at a funeral yesterday. After quoting Psalm 23, he shared other scriptures that give us hope that our Great Shepherd is coming back to take us to His home, where we will be reunited with our loved ones and friends who have been His faithful sheep. It was nice to see how this simple presentation tied in quite well with the graveside message by the SDA pastor from a neighboring town. There were many Buddhists and other Christians at the gathering, and we pray that our message and song were a blessing.

Friends of our work here have shared with us reports from the Thai army that they have listened in on recent radio conversations from the Burma side of the border. They tell us to expect a significant increase in attacks from the Burmese and DKBA (Buddhist Karen) armies once the rainy season is over. Although we are thankful that God is fully able to protect us and our students, we do solicit your prayers on our behalf. We know that without God’s protection we could be in great danger.

May God inspire, bless, guide, and protect you as you remain faithful to Him.
