• Of Clothes and Simplicity

Our family is on the go…We’re soon to hit the road again.

Thursday and Friday…I open my suitcases that have faithfully protected my clothes while I was in Thailand.

    Oh…No…Ugh!

So many clothes. I haven’t seen or been surrounded by so many for at least a year. Soon, I was overwhelmed. I had forgotten how complex and stressful life is here. Piles of clothes to pick from for the next 2-3 weeks. And I’m going nuts. (literally)

Get me out of here, is my plea. (feeling rather desperate for relief…freedom. Simplicity of life.)

I reflect upon the life that I love so much. A simple, wooden, one-bedroom home. A mat to sleep on. A few garments. 2-3 pairs of shoes, one being flip-flops that are a major part of living. A meal that mostly consists of RICE and vegetables 2 times a day. These are only examples of life’s simple ways on the boarder. I appreciate it more than ever. It’s peaceful, to say it in a concise way.

You could have the possessions of one who lives in the well-to-do country of America, but give me the simplicity, beauty, and peacefulness of the remote lands of Thailand. And I am content.

But, then my mind takes me beyond this…

Am I seeking for emptiness and for the attractions of this earth, or am I striving for the fullness and simplicity of Christianity that comes from abiding in the presence of my Friend?

Give me a life hidden in Christ. And I am content.
